But based on the cliffhanger ending of the last season, the chances of another excursion for the Summerhouse team are looking strong. The final episode not only wrapped up most if not all of the plot threads that had been woven throughout the new season but also provided an explosive finale that completely altered the program and will no doubt leave fans eager to see what happens next. Saffron Hocking’s character Lauryn had already managed to quit Liverpool, her controlling lover Curtis (Howard Charles), and his sister Vee (Ava Brennan).

This meant the arms dealers went on the attack, robbing Dushane Hill’s (Ashley Walters) drug supply and shooting up his girlfriend Shelley’s (Little Simz) manicure salon. Jaq (Jasmine Jobson) devised a scheme to meet with Curtis and appear to hand over Lauryn while the rest of the gang prepared to ambush him. Curtis received a call from Lauryn telling him of her location before he could meet with Jaq. She apologized and agreed to accompany Curtis back to Liverpool, before stabbing him in the chest and neck numerous times and leaving him to bleed out on the floor.

The Summerhouse is Saved by Dushane

Summerhouse’s residents were being forced to leave so that the estate could be developed. This meant that they would have to leave their homes permanently, with the municipality lodging them somewhere, which sparked outrage in the community. Dushane had been thrilled with the plans as an investor since they would help him launder his drug money, but after his mother Pat (Marsha Millar) died, he changed his mind. She was adamant about fighting the developers, so Dushane gave her what she wanted by threatening Jeffrey (Shaun Dingwall).

In Top Boy, why did Sully shoot Jamie?

Simply put, Sully has never trusted Jamie, which is understandable given Jamie’s many attempts on Sully’s life last season while their respective gangs were at the battle over Summerhouse. After Dushane Hill (Ashley Walters) framed Jamie for weapons possession and sought to obtain his release from prison in exchange for Jamie working for him, Jamie had an uneasy working relationship with his former opponent and Sully’s sometime ally Dushane Hill (Ashley Walters). Even if he didn’t completely trust Jamie, Dushane seemed to admire him. The inhabitants were ecstatic when the U-turn was announced at the end of the show.

After learning the truth about what happened to Ats (Kieyon Cook) more on later Dushane ordered Jamie to put his friend and second-in-command Kit (Kadeem Ramsay) to death as a final test of devotion, which Jamie reluctantly did. This was sufficient proof for Dushane, but not for Sully, who still detested Jamie, resulting in a confrontation between the two, which foreshadowed Sully’s later actions. Dushane threatened to kill his wife Lizzie (Lisa Dwan) for scheming behind his back regarding the drug business if he didn’t return to the original plans.

Sully is taken aback when his old colleague refers to Jamie as their “retirement plan” while standing on the balcony of Dushane’s flat – Dushane now sees Jamie as not only an ally but also his successor as a top boy of the Summerhouse estate and beyond. “It’s as if you want to remain out here, on the roads, in your old age I don’t,” Dushane replies, prompting Sully to advise that they part ways. Sully responds, “You got your way, I got mine.” “And they’re not lining up.”

Though Sully’s actions were anticipated by a tense encounter between the two when they were together in Spain in episode 6 of the current season, it’s stunning to see Top Boy kill dead Jamie. Sully is at Dushane’s request to deal with a drug supply issue after Dushane rescued Sully from a rival gang holding him captive – but while he owes Dushane a favor, Sully is plainly having trouble working with Jamie. He asks his foe, “You think I’ve forgotten?” referring to the previous assassination attempts on his life. Jamie responds, “Dushane informed me everything that happened in the past is done.”

“Dushane does not speak for me,” Sully insists. “So if you look at me the wrong way, you’re finished. I swear to God, Jamie, I’m going to f**king bury you out here.” Sully was always going to lash out at Jamie at the slightest provocation, and Dushane naming him as his successor was the final straw. (In Sully’s defense, he wasn’t entirely wrong about Jamie, who had plotted to depose Dushane earlier in the season.)

Jamie Murders Kit

After assisting in the incarceration of Jamie Tovell (Micheal Ward), Kit (Kadeem Ramsay) admits to having Ats Ayittey attacked. He wanted Ats to be beaten up, but when the battle got out of hand, his assailant ended up shooting him. Jamie was first opposed to Dushane ordering him to kill his lifelong friend. Jamie decided to go ahead with the transfer after realizing how much it would affect his brothers, shooting Kit in the head just as they were about to leave.

What is going to happen next?

Sully’s actions will undoubtedly rekindle his feud with Dushane, who had chosen Jamie as his heir apparent, but any future episodes will very definitely focus on the impact their brother’s death will have on Stefan and Aaron. Will teenage Stefan be drawn deeper into the murky criminal underground as he seeks vengeance for Jamie’s murder, and will studious Aaron, who has always refused to participate in Jamie’s illicit activities, now follow in his footsteps? Aaron won’t be taking those examinations any longer…

Tia (Conya Toccara), Stefan’s companion, comes to his flat barely seconds after Jamie’s murder, even crossing Sully in the corridor as he leaves. Tia doesn’t rush to aid when she hears Stefan’s screams, instead of stepping calmly into the flat was she somehow complicit in the plot to kill Jamie? Tia had gotten Stefan tied up with a rival gang earlier in the season finale, and Jamie arrived just in time to save his brother. Perhaps this gang was also involved, banding together with Sully to fight Jamie? If/when Top Boy returns, there will undoubtedly be plenty of stories to be told.

Sully avenges Himself

Jamie attempted to assassinate Sully (Kane “Kano” Robinson) on several occasions during the first season. Sully had never trusted Jamie since he knew he aspired to be the Summerhouse estate’s top boy. Sully was not pleased when Dushane began to speak as if Jamie would one day succeed him. This is when he decided to take action himself to ensure that this never happened again.

This season, Dushane, Sully, and the gang faced psychopathic Liverpudlian gangster Curtis (Howard Charles) – Curtis was eventually killed by his pregnant girlfriend Lauryn (Saffron Hocking), with Sully ordering Curtis’ sister and the rest of her gang to return to Liverpool and never return to London. Will they follow Sully’s warning or will they return to exact vengeance on Lauryn and her sister Jaq (Jasmine Jobson)?
