Tim Davie Salary: In comparison to the outgoing DG, the incoming BBC leader has received a pay cut of 27%. Tim Davie, the BBC’s new director-general, received a salary of £471,000 in 2013. Lord Hall, the former director-general of the BBC, earned £190,000 in the final five months of his term, according to the BBC’s annual report. Tim Davie, who succeeded Lord Hall as DG in September, was paid £471,000 for the fiscal year ending in March, which includes seven months as DG and five months as head of BBC Studios.
Mr. Davie’s pay was substantially lower than the £642,000 he received at BBC Studios, despite obtaining a £200,000 bonus a year before. According to the report, BBC Commercial Holdings’ underlying pre-tax profits plummeted by 23.8 percent to £144 million in the most recent fiscal year. Lord Hall congratulated Davie, adding, “and I wish him all the best for the future.” I have faith in the BBC’s current management.” Davie’s annual remuneration will be £525,000, up £75,000 from Lord Hall’s, but down £75,000 from his prior income as head of BBC Studios. According to the BBC, if inflation had been incorporated into the director general’s compensation, a salary increase of this scale would have been achievable. Davie has “chosen to adopt a salary stand-still” and will be paid £450,000 until August 2021, as “all senior managers at the BBC are now on a salary freeze.”

He will be the 17th director-general in the company’s 98-year history.
Former Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne, editor of the Evening Standard, commended Davie’s “commercial knowledge” and the organization’s “steeped in tradition.” Carrie Gracie, a BBC journalist who spearheaded an equal pay fight with the corporation two years ago, thinks it’s “a tragedy we couldn’t have a lovely woman.” She went on to say: “He has, however, met with employees who are angry about gender, racism, and other concerns.
