T.P.J. Kinnaird Taptiklis was born on December 16, 1984, in High Wycombe. Philip Taptiklis, a business consultant, was his father, and his mother Jane (née Martin), a National Health Service employee, was his mother. Because of his father’s Greek ancestry (he moved from the Peloponnese to New Zealand). His other forebears are of English and Scottish descent. James was the youngest of five brothers and sisters who came before him in age. James grew up in the village of Askett in Buckinghamshire.
