It’s a story about going from having a lot of money to having nothing at all. Hedging fund manager Frank is Sally’s husband, and they have two children. Among their staff are a highly skilled Spanish chef, a highly spoiled Australian nanny, and a highly-skilled dog groomer. When it comes to her home, Sally treats it as if it were a hotel room. As the kids spiral out of control after Frank declares bankruptcy, Sally experiences a sort of midlife crisis catharsis. In Giedroyc’s words, “Hand on heart, I just want to write another one.”
As she gets older, she no longer cares what others think about her. Things begin to fall into place: you realize that you are not the center of the universe. Then there is the release. When you’re in your twenties and thirties, all you care about is yourself. That’s a thing of the past… When it comes to my job as an author, I’ve said it all! It is a superpower for a writer: “Invisibility is a superpower,” she exclaims with a laugh. “Oh my God, invisibility is the nicest thing.”

Having been born in Epsom, Surrey on June 5th, 1968, Giedroyc was raised in Leatherhead. She was born to a Polish-Lithuanian noble family, and her father, Michal, a civil engineer, aircraft designer, and family historian, migrated to the United Kingdom in 1947; he died in December 2017. English-born mother Rosemary “Rosy” Cumpston (born 1937) is her maternal lineage. After graduating from Oxford High School, Mel Giedroyc went on to Trinity College, Cambridge, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in French and Italian.

In support of BBC Children in Need, Giedroyc sang the first solo in Gareth Malone’s All-Star Choir’s cover of “Wake Me Up” in November 2014. BBC One aired a two-part documentary on the choir on November 3 and 10, 2014. The song debuted at the top of the UK Singles Chart on November 16th. Strictly Come to Dancing Live Tour featured Giedroyc as host from January 22 to February 14, 2016.
Giedroyc played the Third Narrator in The Rocky Horror Show Live, which was broadcast live from London’s Playhouse Theatre to cinemas across the United Kingdom and Europe on September 17, 2015. For the West End revival of Company, Giedroyc played Sarah, a character created by Stephen Sondheim. In Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, Giedroyc portrayed Beatrice at the Rose Theatre in 2018. In the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special of 2021, it was announced that Giedroyc would dance with Neil Jones.

A four-child family, Giedroyc is the youngest of them. As a film and television director, her sister Coky Giedroyc is married to British ambassador Philip Parham; her younger sister Kasia is a children’s author. Ben Morris, a television director, and LAMDA teacher is Giedroyc’s husband. They’ve got two daughters. Season 5 of “The Great British Baking Show” was a rude surprise for viewers of the reality competition show.
