Filming Locations The Adam Project: The House in Ryan Reynolds’ ‘The Adam Project’ Is a Remodeled Vancouver Estate! Everyone seems to be talking about “The Adam Project!” at the moment. You can’t turn around in recent weeks without seeing or hearing something about the new action-adventure picture, which debuted on Netflix on Friday and has been holding the streaming service’s coveted number one place ever since.
In this wonderful storey, 2050s pilot Adam Reed (Ryan Reynolds) returns to the year 2022 to save humanity from the evils that have arisen as a result of his scientist father’s creation of time travel, a notion invented by Louis Reed (Mark Ruffalo). Adam encounters his 12-year-old self, played by newcomer Walker Scobell (in his first-ever acting role! ) while exploring the past, and the two prove to be an unbeatable – and funny – team! because of its funny banter, moving tale, and distinct ’80s vibe Shawn Levy, who also acts as an executive producer and frequent director on Netflix’s beloved “Stranger Things” series, is responsible for the film’s throwback vibe. Filming for “The Adam Project,” which is set in Seattle, took place a few hours north of the Emerald City in Vancouver, British Columbia, and its surrounds. The Pine Ridge Motel, where the two Adams try to persuade their father to “put the genie back in the bottle and kill time travel before it’s even developed,” is replaced by the Sundance Pub & Inn in Delta, which has been featured in a number of recent films.
Blarney Stone in Vancouver’s Gastown Area
At The Blarney Stone in Vancouver’s Gastown area, adult Adam provides his mother, Ellie (Jennifer Garner), with child-rearing advice. The Shoppers Drug Mart at 2490 Marine Dr. in West Vancouver, where adult Adam purchases pharmaceutical supplies, is Rainier Pharmacy. And just down the road at the Dundarave Beach Cafe, little Adam is beaten up by local thugs. The mid-century home where young Adam lives with his parents is, however, the film’s most popular location, the one that had the Twitterverse oohing and ahhing all weekend.
Levy gave production designer Claude Paré the task of creating “the house that you would dream of living in” for the shoot. And the Reed home is everything a dream home should be – a mid-century modern marvel fashioned of a glorious combination of wood, stone, and glass. However, in an unpleasant twist, the mansion seen onscreen does not exist. All interior scenes involving the Reeds’ home were staged, as is customary in most large-scale productions. Filming in the controlled setting of a studio is easier and more convenient for cast and crew, especially when the cast includes a plethora of A-Listers like “The Adam Project.”
External shots of the Reeds’ house were taken on location, as is customary in most films. However, in an unusual move, the building’s façade was drastically altered for the film, making it nearly unrecognizable. “The outside of Adam’s family home was shot in the lovely Lynn Valley suburb of North Vancouver,” according to the interactive map website Netflix in your Neighborhood. 590 E. Kings Rd. has that same exterior in its original state. (Please keep in mind that this is a private home.) Trespassing or bothering the property or its owners in any way is prohibited.)

Paré used CGI to add a peaked roof portion to the southern end of the location and replace the entire second story with a set of clerestory windows to better match the split-level architecture of the set. Only a section of the bottom level of the house was kept untouched for the shoot, which includes the glass and wood front door, stacked stone accents, and modern cottage windows. The front yard vegetation, grass block pavers driveway, and step stone walkway were also kept unaltered.
The house is substantially bigger in real life than it appears onscreen, with four bedrooms (all with ensuite bathrooms) and five baths spread across 4,750 square feet. The enormous house, which was built in 2015 to replace a modest clapboard cabin that had previously stood on the property, was designed by the Symphony Homes Ltd. development business. The home is far more modern in style than its onscreen equivalent, with hardwood flooring, soaring ceilings, piled stone walls, and magnificent built-ins adorning the interiors.
A formal entry, a living room, a family room, a dining room, a bookshelf-lined library, and a kitchen with polished white cabinets, a central island, and a bevy of stainless steel equipment, including a convection oven and a large fridge, are among the appealing living areas. The grounds offer groomed gardens, grassy areas, a built-in fire pit, and a water feature on a sylvan 0.30-acre corner lot full of mature pines. And it all went for a cool $4 million CAD (about $3.1 million USD) recently. The pad was originally listed for $3,698,000 CAD in September 2021, but it sold for $302,000 CAD over asking last December!
Eric Christiansen of Bellevue Realty Group, a notable Vancouver-area agent who has been ranked in the city’s top 1% of realtors for the past 19 years, held the listing. The interior of the property is nothing like its online counterpart, which is far more personal and open instead of possessing huge but defined rooms. “We wanted the interior of the home to look like a split-level fantasy house you’d traditionally find in the Pacific Northwest, but also like it had come together over the years,” Paré said of the design. The set, which was built inside a Vancouver-area hockey rink, took Paré and his team two months to create.
Vancouver’s Metropolitan Area
The Adam Project was mostly shot in the Vancouver metropolitan region, which is an urbanized and densely populated metropolis on Canada’s west coast, particularly in the province of British Columbia. Residents of Vancouver noticed the crew filming in a variety of locations throughout the city, so it wasn’t a surprise that they shot a variety of sequences there. Vancouver is known as the “Hollywood of the North” because it is far less expensive for production teams to film a movie there than it is in other parts of the United States. As a result, many different movies and television episodes have been filmed in Vancouver.

Because the Vancouver Convention Centre is so close to Jack Poole Plaza, the film crew was spotted filming there as well.

Adam’s father, represented by Mark Ruffalo in the film, was actually a professor who was responsible for establishing the fundamentals of time travel. As a result, it’s not surprising that the crew chose to film at the University of British Columbia.
