Design

On the Element, there is a flat, gunmetal-colored plastic bezel that measures just a quarter of an inch on the sides, top and bottom, and half an inch on the bottom. Located in the center of the bottom bezel is the Element logo. Two thin metal legs in the shape of a V support the TV.

Alexa can controlled by voice with Voice Remote

Customers of Amazon Fire TV will recognize the supplied remote even though it has an Element logo on it. In addition to the circular navigation pad, the wand has a menu and playback buttons on either side of it. The power and microphone buttons, as well as a hole for the integrated microphone, are located above the pad. By pushing the microphone button on your TV, you can use voice search and Alexa features. Three service buttons for Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, and Amazon Music are located beneath the direction pad. Using a wireless remote, you may control your television without having to look at it directly.

For those who like Amazon’s Fire TV,

While Amazon’s Fire TV and Fire TV Stick have used the Fire TV user interface before, this is the first time it has been built into a television. A few more menus and connectivity options for accessing television-specific capabilities not available in media streamers are included, making it comparable to the Roku TV platform. If you’ve ever used an Amazon Fire TV device, Element’s UI will be very familiar to you. A large tile displays apps, services, and connections in the Recent, Your Apps and Games, Inputs, and On Now rows.

Consumption of electricity and delay in input

input lag is the amount of time that elapses between a television receiving a signal and displaying the new information. In Custom picture mode, the Element has an input lag of 70.7ms. With a 70ms input lag, the PC/Game picture mode is not particularly useful. TCL’s input lag is half that of LeEco’s, at 36.7ms, while LeEco’s is half that of TCL’s, at 15.1ms. No power-saving picture modes or presets are available on the 55-inch Element when used in standard viewing settings. Both the TCL and the LeEco’s calibrated picture settings confirm this. In order to save electricity, the backlight can be reduced to 70%, which will somewhat dim the screen but keep it viewable.

Performance

We used a DVDO AVLab 4K test pattern generator, a Klein K-10A colorimeter, and Portrait Displays’ CalMAN 5 software on a Razer Blade Pro notebook to evaluate TVs. For an impressive 4,915:1 contrast ratio, the Element’s brightness peaked at 344.03cd/m2 and its darkest black level was at 0.07cd/m2 when calibrated in a dark room using PLUGE charts. This is decent for a low-cost television, however, the TCL 55P607 has a contrast ratio nearly five times greater with a peak brightness of 507.85cd/m2 and a black level of 0.02cd/m2. HDR is not supported by the Element, in contrast to the TCL.

The Element’s somewhat undersaturated reds can be seen on Deadpool’s Ultra HD Blu-ray. At the beginning of the film, Wade’s sherpa jacket has a dull red plaid, which contrasts with the natural red of Deadpool’s outfit. Skin tones appear slightly yellow-red under warm lights in interior contexts, although they appear natural in most other lighting situations. The Element’s mild color accuracy issues and the TV’s poor black level are brought to light even more in Ultra HD Blu-presentation rays of The Great Gatsby. Skin tones can occasionally appear pink or yellow depending on the setting, appearing natural just half the time.

Remote

The Roku remote is familiar to anybody who has used a Roku TV, be it an Element or another model. There are no sharp edges or protruding prongs on the remote, which makes it comfortable to hold and use. For media playback, going to the home page, or accessing the settings menu, the remote has Roku’s purple and black color scheme, as well as the larger-than-average directional pad used for app navigation. It is possible to discern the overall forms of the black suits in high-contrast photos, but individual cuts and wrinkles are obscured by muddy blackness. Even though the colors and shadows aren’t overly dark, the picture still doesn’t look its best.

Choices That Make Sense

Roku’s tried-and-true smart-TV platform, which we’ve long deemed strong, is employed by Element. There are a number of models that utilize the Roku TV branding despite the fact that some high-end TV makers use proprietary operating systems or modified versions of other platforms (like Sony’s Android TV). That means that regardless of whether you have a $1,000 TCL 6-Series or an Element Roku TV, you’ll get the same Roku experience.

Roku has set up its own channel in order to give more free content right out of the box. Free apps sometimes sacrifice quality for quantity, and this one does as well. In addition to this, there are a variety of on-demand movies and old-school television shows from ABC News, Cheddar, and People TV. Even though Pleasantville and Ghost Rider were the channel’s most popular selections, it also provides a wide selection of films to choose from that include comedy like Miss Congeniality 1 and 2 as well as several low-budget action pictures. When I searched to see if there was any more old TV available, such as I Dream of Jeannie, I could only watch episodes from seasons 1 and 5.

Conclusions

You get 4K quality and all the conveniences of an Amazon Fire TV media streamer for a reasonable price, including the microphone-equipped remote that allows you to use Amazon’s Alexa personal assistant. Roku TV’s TCL P-series gives a significantly better picture at a lower price, which is one of the most important considerations when selecting a TV. TCL is still our Editors’ Decision over the Element, which isn’t a bad choice.
