Mary Elizabeth Truss (born July 26, 1975) is a British politician who has served as Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs since 2021 as well as Minister for Women and Equalities since 2019. She has served as the South West Norfolk representative since 2010. She served in the cabinet under David Cameron and Theresa May before being elevated to a number of positions under Boris Johnson.
From 2012 to 2014 he served as the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Childcare and Education until being elevated to Cabinet Minister at David Cameron’s cabinet reshuffle in 2014. She voted for Brexit after initially supporting the UK’s continued membership in the EU during the 2016 referendum. Following David Cameron’s resignation in July 2016, Theresa May proposed Truss as Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor. In the wake of the 2017 presidential election, Truss was appointed Chief Secretary to the Treasury. When Theresa May resigned in 2019, Truss supported Boris Johnson’s quest for the premiership.
As a result of this appointment, Truss became CEO and Secretary of State for International Trade. He chose her to succeed Dominic Raab as foreign secretary in 2021. Truss took over from David Frost as the government’s principal negotiator with the European Union and the UK chair of the EU-UK Partnership Council on December 19, 2021. In the 2022 Conservative Party leadership election, which will be decided by a vote of the party’s members on September 2 of that year, Rishi Sunak is the other remaining contender. His allies think that Rishi Sunak’s resignation as chancellor was the catalyst for his fall and the resignations of a number of additional ministers. He took a shot at his previous Chancellor by saying that if they had always listened to the Treasury, significant infrastructure projects would not have been performed. He gave his successor the following advice: “Cut taxes and deregulate wherever you can and make this the best location to live and invest, which it is.” I adore the Treasury, but if we had always listened to them, neither the M25 nor the Channel Tunnel would have been built, he remarked.
The tax-cut promises of Ms. Truss, which Tory insiders claim fiscally conservative Mr. Sunak had rejected, have received support from a number of Mr. Johnson’s allies.
