“Let’s do this right, and you’re invited to my wedding.” Cole, a nine-time Golden Guitar Award winner, said she had no intention of becoming a political flag-waver, but she is now keen to lend her support to the same-sex marriage campaign. Cole remarked. “When it comes to issues that directly affect you and people in your community,” she says, “there is a moment to stand up and say, ‘Come on, let’s get this right,” according to Australian Story. “I believe the law is absurd and unjust as it stands.” All we truly want is to be treated equally, and that isn’t happening.” The ecstatic pair wants O’Donovan’s parents, both Anglican priests, to perform the wedding.
O’Donovan’s father, Reverend Bart O’Donovan, is in favor of permitting same-sex marriage. Even if the law is changed, he cannot officiate same-sex weddings until the Anglican Church alters its policy. “The church will catch up sometime after homosexual marriage is legalized,” he said. “If we were in America, Canada, or other parts of the world, the Anglican Church would have already done that.” The “Big Gay Brady Bunch” family is related to the “Bonnie and Clyde” family. Cole and O’Donovan met at an Adelaide LGBT pride festival just weeks after Cole revealed she was a lesbian on the ABC show Australian Story in 2012.
O’Donovan had a child from one of his Partnerships
Cole was married to musician Mick Albeck for 18 months, but the relationship was short-lived. Ricky, their 17-year-old son, is their only child. After only a year of meeting one other, there was no better time than now to form their own “big homosexual Brady Bunch.” Ricky would simply say, “We are living with mom’s partner and her little child comes over from time to time,” when asked about his family circumstances. “After meeting Libby, Mom was a lot happier.” Cole’s sexuality is embraced by conservative country music audiences.
Cole had been an outspoken supporter of gay marriage before meeting O’Donovan, but he had no intention of marrying again. After her feelings for O’Donovan altered, she chose to propose during his 40th birthday celebration in January. Cole wed a man when it was allowed, and he wants to do it again if the law allows it. Because they are law-abiding citizens who pay taxes and contribute back to their community, this couple wants their government to recognize their marriage. “I don’t want to be married in another country only to have the marriage not be recognized here,” she explained.
Cole was afraid that if she came out as gay in 2012, she would be shunned by the country music industry’s more conventional members. She was nervous about what would happen to the audience at Gympie Muster, her first show since the discovery, but instead received a passionate standing ovation. Cole was named the ambassador for the Gympie Muster this year, demonstrating that the country music community has come to accept her sexuality. “She was anxious about coming out,” organizer Jeff Chandler said, “but the audience here and the country music community couldn’t be more accepting of her.”

The couple indicated in an interview with ABC that they will be actively involved in the fight for marital equality. There is a time and a place for standing out for what you believe in, according to Beccy.
