Jake English Sports Presenter: From the start of the 2013 season onward, Jake Humphrey will be the face of BT Vision’s new sports channel’s coverage of football. He has previously worked with Eddie Jordan and David Coulthard on the BBC’s coverage of Formula One racing. To host a hat-trick of BBC Sport shows, he was just the second-youngest presenter in history to do so.
For the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards in 2008 and 2009, he hosted alongside Sue Barker and Gary Lineker. Besides the Olympics and Euro 2008, he also made a journey to India for Sport Relief and presented at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in 2008. Rapture TV in Norwich hired Jake as a runner to begin his broadcasting career. In the end, he became a researcher and presented by accident. This resulted in him being given the opportunity to anchor a live, daily sports show on TWI. From then, he went on to work for six years at CBBC, where he hosted a number of popular shows and live links.
A few of Jake’s passions are fiction writing, autobiography reading, and international travel. He also has a passion for automobiles and a deep affinity for his hometown team, Norwich City. In addition to broadcasting Champions League and Premier League football on BT Sport, BAMZOOKi, and BBC Sport’s coverage of the Formula 1 Grand Prix, Jacob John Humphrey is also noted for his work as a television presenter and journalist. My Adolescent Years
Her parents were retired teachers and the former chief executive of Age Concern Norfolk. She was born in Peterborough in Cambridgeshire. Rachel is his only sibling, whereas Thomas is his older brother. The family relocated to Norwich, Norfolk when Humphrey was nine years old, and he attended Framingham Earl High School and the Hewett School, Norwich, for his secondary education. A paperboy job and an interest in the media piqued his attention during his time in high school.
Humphrey was bullied for two years before he was able to move on to a new school and be free of harassment. A lack of effective communication led to the dismissal of Humphrey, a 16-year-old, from his first job at McDonald’s. Later on, he worked as a server in a restaurant.
Career
A Career in infancy
Humphrey obtained a work experience position at Anglia Television while he was preparing for his A-Level retakes. Afterward, Humphrey moved to Rapture TV, where he hosted the first iteration of G@mers before joining Anglia as a full-time runner. While working as an assistant host in the 2001 episode of Against All Odds, Humphrey became the primary host of Rule The School. He went on to host Against All Odds and CBBC’s studio show the following year.
Cartoons for kids
He and Holly Willoughby co-hosted CBBC’s coverage of Fame Academy at the end of 2002. This year, they delivered the celebrity edition for Comic Relief, as well. With Sophie McDonnell and Caroline Flack, Humphrey hosted the Comic Relief episodes of Fame Academy in 2005 and 2007. The CBBC show Against All Odds, which included reenactments of real-life situations and provided viewers with First Aid guidance, was also hosted by Humphrey.
Humphrey began presenting The Saturday Show in 2004 and BAMZOOKi in 2006, however, both jobs were cut short due to scheduling conflicts. At Birmingham, he was a CiTV cover continuity presenter. From 2005 to 2008, he was also the host of Newsround. In September 2005, he began a string of sports-related positions when he was selected as host of the children’s sports show Sportsround. During the first season, he hosted Gimme a Break as well.

As a match reporter for BBC Radio 5 Live in 2005, Humphrey covered the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Australia, where he was also a presenter. In November 2006, he took over as host of Football Focus from regular host Manish Bhasin, who was covering the 2006 Ashes series. In 2007, he stepped in to replace Bhasin during the Cricket World Cup. Humphrey has hosted Final Score since Ray Stubbs was unable to present the show due to illness. For the FA Women’s Cup final in May 2007, he presented coverage of the 2007 Women’s World Cup on Match of the Day.
When he joined the BBC in October 2007, he was the first-ever American Football host, and he went on to broadcast Super Bowl XLII and all the way through Super Bowl XLVII. For the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, Humphrey presented highlights shows for the BBC, as well as hosting BBC’s final show for the FA Women’s Cup in 2008. On top of that, Humphrey also co-hosted BBC Sports Personality of the Year with Gary Lineker and Sue Barker for four years in a row from 2008 to 2011. He became the BBC’s Grand Prix anchor in 2009. For Humphrey, the transition was universally seen as a success. Des Lynam proclaimed him the finest sports broadcaster of 2009 at his annual ‘Desmond’ awards in December 2009.
He co-hosted the BBC’s Euro 2012 coverage with Alan Shearer in Lviv, Ukraine, in June of that year. Humphrey provided coverage of the 2012 Summer Olympics in both July and August of that year. BT Sport’s Premier League programming began Humphrey’s live coverage of 38 games in the 2013–14 football season. To help shape the new channel’s football programming, Humphrey will not only host live coverage of Premier League games but also be involved in other football-related projects. In 2015, after hosting BT Sport’s Barclays Premier League matches entirely live for the previous two years. After hosting the Premier League and FA Cup for Sky Sports, Jake will take on the additional responsibility of presenting all live coverage of European Champions League and European Europa League matches.
Philanthropy: The Chairman of the Norwich City Community Sports Foundation is Humphrey. CLIC Sargent just appointed Jake and his wife, Harriet, as honorary vice presidents. They have both been long-time supporters of the charity, which helps children and young people with cancer, and they have been married for more than 30 years. Since 2014, they have personally raised more than $2 million for the organization.
As it pertains to My Own Life
To the south of Norwich, in Norfolk, he has a small village where he makes his home. August 2007 saw him marry Harriet at a ceremony in his hometown of Stowmarket, which is close to Norwich. Harriet became pregnant with their first child on September 11, 2012, when he revealed the news on Twitter. It was on March 21, 2013, that their daughter, Florence Aurelia Alice Humphrey, was born. Since then, Sebastian Alexander James was born on August 1, 2015, making him a father of two. Whisper Films employs Harriet as a director and production manager.
He is a fan of Norwich City, a local football team: In an appearance on BBC Radio 5 Live’s comic sports show Fighting Talk, Humphrey disclosed that he is color-blind, causing much amusement. As far as he knows, he can’t tell when the door-locking light goes from green to red. The University of East Anglia awarded him an Honorary Doctorate in Civil Law in July 2012.
Other than that,
Humphrey hosted the New Year’s Eve countdown shows in 2011 and 2012. BBC One HD’s “BBC One Never Looked So Good” ad featured him as the disco ball kicker and the smiling cameraman. As a 66-year-old Lancaster bomber, Humphrey also briefly anchored coverage of the 2011 Royal Wedding, but his audio was cut off owing to technical difficulties. Free Speech, which premiered on BBC Three on March 7th, 2012, is hosted by him. To date, he has hosted The One Show as a stand-in host.
In addition, he served as host of the BBC daytime game program Beat The Pack and provided commentary for BBC News Channel’s sports briefings. It was on May 31, 2013, that Humphrey and Amanda Byram hosted ITV’s This Morning for the first time. Ruth Langsford joined him for his second appearance on the show, which aired on November 21. It was Humphrey’s debut overnight appearance on BBC Radio 2 on October 10, 2014. on Sky Sports F1 and YouTube, Humphery co-hosted F1 Live London on July 12, 2017.
