He insisted that he “wasn’t dumb,” but rather that he “just had a little bit of a behavioral problem.” He tells us, “I never intended on being a father at such a young age, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world right now.” I was over over heels in love with him from the moment he was born. [However,] I am unable to adequately express how difficult it was. Thank goodness I had Deaconn’s grandmother and grandfather, as well as my mother and brother, who were always there to help me when I needed it.”
Tom continued to pursue his musical aspirations while raising his kid, hoping to provide him with a high quality of life as he grew older. “I was working practically every night, traveling throughout the United Kingdom [as a DJ], and Deaconn was living with me,” he explains. At the mornings, I’d go out and play music in a club, arrive back at 6 am, and then I’d have to get up with Deaconn to get ready for school at 7am and therefore would not get any sleep. My morning routine consisted of making his food and taking him to school before attempting to sleep. It was a recurring theme.”
Tom has realized his ambition of being a renowned DJ and music producer, but he considers his primary profession to be that of a “very proud parent.”
