When it comes to foundation, Nars has been a household name for decades, with products like Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation and Sheer Glow Foundation being some of the most popular. When All Day Luminous Foundation devotees were coming to terms with its evaporation, a new hero emerged: the Nars Light Reflecting Foundation. Nars founder and creative director François Nars say, “When designing this foundation, my goal was to produce a formula that appears like makeup but functions like skin care, and we did that with the Light Reflecting Foundation.”

Even though Nars’ All Day Luminous Foundation is no longer available, the brand still has a few other options for achieving a dewy complexion, so it’s unclear why the company felt the need to produce “the greatest launch in Nars history.” Nars Light Reflecting Foundation is being dubbed as such not just because it’s an exciting new addition to the Nars line, but also because its effects are both immediate and cumulative: it’s both makeup and skincare in one.

The NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Ginger is one of my fave concealers. When it comes to concealing and lightening dark spots, I think Macadamia is a superior option. Custard might work for me too, but I’m more of a Macadamia or a Ginger person most of the time. When it’s hot outside, I’ll go down to the depths of Praline.

70 percent of skin-care elements in Foundation

There are 70 percent skin-care elements in Light Reflecting Foundation, rather than cosmetic compounds that merely have an immediate and superficial impact. Skin’s clarity and evenness become more noticeable even without foundation after a period of time – Nars estimates six weeks. Algae extract, Polynesian seawater, redness-reducing biomimetic oat, a barrier-strengthening Japanese plant called lilyturf, and cacao-derived peptides are some of the skin-care products François Nars is most pleased about using in the formula.

Light Reflecting Foundation was given to me in advance of its official release, but I can’t say for sure if my skin seems more even once I remove it. As for its initial promises of blurring defects, smoothing textured skin, and hiding blemishes as well as discoloration and redness, I can tell you whether or not it lives up to those promises. You can see in my before picture that I had all of the above on hand. There are 36 hues in the Nars complexion-makeup line, ranging from Siberia (the shade with the lightest undertones in most lines) to Majorca (the deepest color ever created by the brand).

I went for Mont Blanc, which is meant for fair-skinned women with neutral undertones. Even though the formula is so thin, it provided immediate medium coverage and effectively concealed my blotchiness without looking cakey or cakey-looking. The actual exam, though, was in capturing the images oneself. Nars calls their “Photochromic Technology” a “photo-friendly” powder, and it adjusts skin tone dependent on light intensity so that photos don’t come out looking washed out.

You can see more of the Shore Light Reflecting Loose Powder in this photo. I’m happy to say that it doesn’t darken my foundation, despite how dark it appeared in the container. This one features a lid and a mesh sifter cover to keep liquids from leaking out. It has a very delicate, almost airy, feel about it.

Product Features

This feature enables us to create a foundation that makes your skin seem great in any light and environment, indoor and outdoor, on camera, and in person,” Nars explains. My complexion doesn’t seem washed out in my opinion, despite my fears that I went with a tone that was a tad too light. My skin appears more luminous because of its light-reflecting facets, which are performing precisely what they’re designed to. In addition, I wanted to see how it appeared on people with different skin tones and skin types, so I asked my coworkers to try it out as well.

For foundation, “Nars will always get it right,” says Allure associate news editor Gabi Thorne, who tested the new Light Reflecting Foundation in New Caledonia. “Love that it’s buildable because I’m a full-coverage foundation fanatic. I just needed a small amount to achieve the level of coverage I desired, and it nearly melted into my skin when applied with a brush. It has a bright finish that makes you glow even if you haven’t taken care of your skin.” During the 94th Annual Academy Awards on March 27, 2022, in Hollywood, California, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker attend Hollywood and Highland.

Talia Gutierrez, the editor’s assistant, is equally enthused, having chosen the shade, Cadiz. A few shades darker than her wintertime skin, she says, “I’m keeping this Light Reflecting Foundation handy while I eagerly await my summer tan,” When applied to my face, it seamlessly covers any redness or discoloration around my nose and mouth, leaving just a dewy finish that is reflective and glass-like. Most importantly, she cites its ability to work nicely with other products, such as inexpensive concealer and cream blush, when applying makeup.

Texture/Consistency:

However, its base is really thin. Despite the fact that it has a liquid texture, it is not watery in any way. It’s really easy to spread and blend. I love to use my beauty blender to mix my makeup since it gives me a flawless, streak-free look. Because it sets so rapidly, I recommend working with your foundation in portions if you have a tendency to be sluggish. I, on the other hand, am able to blend my entire face at once using the sponge and have no issues with it.

Pigmentation/Coverage:

One drop of this foundation is all you need, according to Nars. It’s impossible to overstate how accurate this statement is. I get full coverage with just one drop, which is the same as one pump. All my facial imperfections, from redness to uneven pigmentation and practically erased acne scars, were covered by this one product. Because I didn’t think this foundation could be built upon, this could be seen as a drawback. The more layers you apply, the cakier and bunched up it will look. Applied as a thin coating on the skin, it looks best.

Finish:

It offers the skin a gorgeous, natural-looking, velvety, semi-matte texture. Despite the lack of shine or greasy appearance, it did not leave my skin appearing flat. Because it brought attention to my pores, I found that applying a smoothing, pore-filling, silicone-based primer underneath was far more effective.
