Marie Huckins Daughter: Marie Caroline Lautensleger, 63, a lifelong Brewster resident, died on March 11, 1992, at the Okanogan Douglas Hospital in Brewster. Clarence and Harriet (Viancour) Huckins of Pateros welcomed their first child, Mrs. Lautensleger, on March 29, 1928. Pateros was her hometown, and she graduated from Pateros High School in 1946. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in education from Eastern Washington University in Cheney.
After two years at Washington State University in Pullman and two years at Eastern Washington University in Cheney. She married Don Lautensleger in Pateros on August 26, 1949, and they lived there for 16 years before coming to Brewster. Mrs. Lautensleger had worked for the Brewster School District for 24 years and a year when she resigned in 1980. Mrs. Lautensleger was a long-time member of the Brewster American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 97, St. James Episcopal Church, State Retired Teachers Association (State RTA), AARP, Brewster Senior Citizens, and Brewster Grange, among other organizations.
Don, her husband, resides in Brewster with their son Steve and his wife Carol, as well as two grandchildren, Angie and Russell, both of Pateros, and a bunch of nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all of them. Her mother and daughter were the only ones to die before her. On Monday, March 16, 1992, at 2:00 p.m., services were held at Barnes Chapel in Brewster, with the Rev. Larry Trim officiating. The deceased was laid to rest in the Brewster Cemetery. Defendant and Marie Odette Huckins drove a friend’s car out of a restaurant in St. Regis Falls, New York, around 10:00 p.m. on December 1, 1979. Defendant returned to the tavern the next morning around 1:00 a.m., covered in blood and screaming and crying that he had killed a woman. Despite his companion’s and other diners’ efforts to clean him off and contact the State Police, the defendant went to a relative’s house next door and could not settle down. He then called his mother to tell her what he had done.
“My name is Dennis Mitchell,” the defendant introduced himself to the trooper as soon as he approached him. I was the one who killed the woman. After she attempted to roll him over, he attacked her with a knife. When questioned if the victim was dead, the defendant claimed he had stabbed her at least 15 times. When pressed further, he indicated where he had thrown his knife and the location of the robbery. The defendant’s appointed attorneys did not make any pre-trial discovery or suppression requests. Defendant intends to defend himself on the basis of mental illness or defect.
He admitted to his lawyer that he lied about Huckins’ death and that he was slain by an anonymous male who the defendant could only vaguely identify. He claimed he couldn’t notify his wife and child sooner because he was afraid of retaliation. After his request for a continuance to examine this version of events was rightfully denied, the defendant’s counsel proceeded with his case as planned to prove the defense of severe emotional disturbance (see People v Messina, 73 A.D.2d 899). In his own defense, the defendant was not called to testify. The defendant was found guilty of second-degree murder and sentenced to a term of imprisonment ranging from 20 years to life.

Naomi M. Huckins’ funeral will be held at Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Homes Chapel in Rochester on Wednesday at 11 a.m., with Rev. Wayne Vogt officiating. The final resting location will be Oakwood Cemetery. Mrs. Huckins, a lifelong Rochester resident, died on Saturday at Sunrise Cottages (Nov. 17, 2007). Naomi Marie Gager was born on July 10, 1915, in Cresco, Iowa. She married John O. Huckins in Cresco on April 2, 1938. The couple lived in Cresco until 1953 when they moved to Rochester. Mrs. Huckins worked as a surgical assistant at Rochester Methodist Hospital for 30 years.
She has been involved in the arts as well as the performing and teaching arts at Zumbro Lutheran Church and Rochester’s Senior Citizens. Sewing, cooking, dancing, and playing the piano were among her interests. Jerry (Anne) Bakken and Larry (Lori) Bakken of Red Bud, Illinois, and Larry (Zelda) Majerus of Zumbrota, Minnesota, are among his children and grandkids, as are his daughters Virginia (Larry) Bakken and Sonya Kolb, both of Rochester, and his sons Larry (Lori) Bakken and Larry (Zelda) Majerus (Anne). Her husband died in 1974, and she also lost a brother, Melvin Gager, and a son, Stanley, in the same year.

Mitchell dashed back to the bar, dripping in blood, shouting, “I killed a woman!” Police were dispatched to the site, where Mitchell alleged Huckins attempted to roll him over and began stabbing her. Huckins was discovered dead in the woods the next morning, having been stabbed 15 times. Mitchell was found guilty of second-degree murder and sentenced 20 to life in prison in May 1980. Charges against him were dismissed after he was released from jail in October 2007, after he was accused of beating a person who had attacked his son while he was out.

Diana Marie Huckins Bartlett is, without a question, one of the most gorgeous ladies on the globe. Diana M. Huckins Bartlett, 65, died in her home on the 3rd of May 2021. Nancy Lee Harrington of Jonesport, Maine, and her husband Herbert Huckins, Jr. were her parents. Diana attended Narraguagus High School in 1974 and the University of Maine at Machias in 1978 for her high school education. (riverbendresort.us) She was Assistant Director of Administrative Services and Assistant to the Campus Dean at the University of Maine in Augusta’s Bangor campus.
Diana was interested in history. As a result of her devotion, she grew interested in genealogy. She was a member of various organizations, including the Milbridge Historical Society, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and the Mayflower Descendants’ General Society. In 2003, she co-authored a book about the grave inscriptions in Milbridge with Alice Beal and Beverly Pinkham. Diana released the Vital Records of Milbridge, Maine for the year 1900. Molly and Lucy, her beloved pugs, are the only members of her family still alive.
Her mother, Nancy Harrington of Milbridge, stepdaughter Kristine Moody and stepgranddaughter Sophie Moody of Portland, as well as stepgranddaughter Hannah Moody of Spencer, Massachusetts, survive her. Glenburn’s stepson-in-law Tim Ward and stepgrandson Cameron Ward are also alive. Diana’s family members that died before her included her stepfather, George Harrington, stepmother, Karen Ward, and stepbrother, George Harrington Junior.
