Mariana Rodrigues Mortágua, born on June 24, 1986, in Alvito, Beja, is a Portuguese economist and politician who is the National Coordinator of the Left Bloc since May 28, 2023. She has been a member of the Assembly of the Republic since August 31, 2013, representing the Lisbon constituency.
Mariana is the daughter of Camilo Mortágua, an anti-Salazar activist and revolutionary, and the twin sister of Joana Mortágua, also a Left Bloc MP. She holds a master’s degree in Economics from ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa and a PhD in Economics from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London.

Mariana gained prominence in Portuguese politics after her role in the parliamentary inquiry into Zeinal Bava and Ricardo Salgado, in the context of the BES bank’s bankruptcy.
