Originally from Custer Park, Illinois, Kay Cannon is the fifth of seven children and the youngest of three sisters. In addition to graduating from Reed-Custer High School in Braidwood, Illinois, she also earned a BA in Theatre and an MA in Education from Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois. She is married and has two children.
Cannon was nominated for the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Comedy Series three times for her work on the hit show 30 Rock. She was honored with a Peabody Award in 2008 for her work on the show.

Pitch Perfect, a cappella comedy, was Cannon’s first feature-length screenplay to be produced (2012). Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) and Pitch Perfect 3 (2016), both of which she wrote and co-produced, are sequels to the original film (2017).
