Is Vivocity Closed Today: Dairy Farm International, located in Hong Kong, is reorganizing its Southeast Asian operations, with Giant VivoCity on the horizon. The closure follows the closing of Giant Singapore stores in Panjang and Whampoa estate’s Jalan Tenteram. According to Singapore’s online news source Today, the Grandstand mall on Turf Club Road, Block 512 on Bishan Street 13, and Block 118 on Aljunied Avenue, 2 will close.
According to Today, lease renewals and store performance are being examined. According to a Giant official, VivoCity informed the company that the lease will not be renewed. Employees at Giant VivoCity will be transferred to other Giant Singapore stores, as well as Cold Storage, 7-Eleven, and Guardian. According to a source, NTUC FairPrice would take over the area, but the company has declined to comment. Chairman Ben Keswick of Dairy Farm International stated the company’s Southeast Asian food operations continued to have issues, resulting in a worse overall performance.
Due to increased store openings, Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia saw reduced sales and profits, while the Philippines saw higher sales but lower profits. For a long time, these businesses have lacked infrastructure, product variety, and competitive pricing, even as competition has grown. “It will take effort to turn these culinary businesses around and match shifting customer preferences. Appropriate plans are being implemented as a result of the strategic evaluation, but they will take time to take effect, according to Keswick.
Chulove?
Level 1 of VivoCity. Chulove Cafe is located at the former Serenity location. The colorful outside of Chulove Cafe attracted us. According to its website, its main draw is churros, which are “made fresh to order using an authentic Spanish recipe.” Chulove Cafe is a shop that sells flavored churros. Long churros appear to be delectable. This new coffeehouse attracted a large number of people, including ourselves. While we were there, the cafe was bustling but not completely full. Croissants were also on the menu. They were, however, plain.
The menu board at Chulove Cafe is shown. Churros are served in a cup or on a stick. We settled for one long churro ($3) and coffee, despite all the talk about diabetes. We were asked if we wanted delivery or takeout. Even when dining in, everyone was served throwaway items. Here’s our hastily assembled tray, complete with coffee and churros. The churro was both good and attractive. The $4.50 green tea latte was excellent, but the $3.50 long black and $4.5 cappuccino were both disappointing. Chulove Cafe is a convenient stop for visitors visiting VivoCity. The majority of the seating is on stools, which is lovely but exhausting. Chulove was only a temporary partner. Search for eternal love after 30 minutes.
VivoCity is a shopping complex in the HarbourFront district of Singapore. With 99,987 square meters (1,076,250 square feet) of net lettable space and 142,854 square meters (1,537,670 square feet) of gross floor space, it is Singapore’s largest mall. It was created by Toyo Ito and named after the Japanese word vivacity. According to Mapletree chairman Edmund Cheng, VivoCity “evokes a modern, interesting, and accessible lifestyle experience.” VivoCity was ranked one of Singapore’s top malls by Forbes in December 2016.
History
The former World Trade Center’s Expo Gateway and Harbour Pavilion show halls were demolished in June 2003 to make room for VivoCity. With 1,500,000 square feet (140,000 m2) of gross floor space and 1,077,000 square feet (100,100 m2) of retail space, it has surpassed Suntec City and Ngee Ann City as Singapore’s largest shopping mall since its opening in 2006. It was designed by Toyo Ito. Temasek Holdings’ Mapletree Investments designed the S$417 million complex.
The start of the Event
The mall opened on December 1 after a topping-off ceremony on April 18 and a soft launch on October 7, 2006. The opening ceremony included six minutes of fireworks, a concert by the American band String Theory, and a Stefanie Sun performance. S Dhanabalan, a former cabinet minister and current chairman of Temasek, was the honored guest. It garnered 4.2 million visitors in its first month, roughly the same as Singapore’s population, and 7.28 million before the official opening.
A massive harp with strings reaching the third level was displayed at the String Theory event. The Promenade concert took place from December 1 to 10. On the Keppel Harbour-facing boardwalk, barricades were erected. For the debut, the third-floor food court and Sky Park (roof garden) were closed to the public. Parts of the parking area were closed to invited guests. A large projection screen at the mall’s entrance displayed Stefanie Sun’s concert.
Countdown to tenancy
VivoCity held the live televised new year’s countdown instead of Sentosa. The 2007 Countdown was hosted at the rooftop amphitheater from December 31 to January 1, 2007, and featured performances from Mediacorp Channel 5 and 8 musicians, as well as the Top 11 finalists of Singapore Idol. Taufik Batisah, Daren Tan Sze Wei, the Deal Or No Deal girls, and Channel 5 and 8 vocalists all appeared on the 2008 Countdown. Fans were treated to a 50-minute showcase featuring the solo and group champions of Channel 5’s talent competition “Live The Dream,” as well as other finalists.
VivoCity inaugurated a 3,000-square-meter Basement 1 extension mall in July 2018 with ten fashion, athleisure, and lifestyle stores. Notable brands include FILA, Adidas, New Era, Weston Corp, and Xiaomi. The escalator to the future B1 extension is located in Lobby R, near the Kopitiam food court. Before February 17, 2019, Giant, Cold Storage, and Guardian were leased under Vivomart. On July 16, FairPrice Xtra moved in.
Facilities
VivoCity’s distinctive architecture, which includes event areas, al fresco dining, and a roof-top amphitheater, sets it apart from the traditional box structure of many current (and future) retail complexes in the neighborhood. Since its inception, Sky Park has been a huge hit. The Play Court and the mall’s large spaces are popular with kids. The Promenade and the water feature entrance area are particularly popular with children. Children love the wading pool on the third floor and the Play Court. The Amphitheatre at Sky Park hosted the grand opening.
Sentosa Island is a popular tourist destination. Some people are having a picnic in the mall’s outside area. Around 300 tenants, including new brands and retail concepts, can be accommodated at VivoCity. The 2006 Singapore Biennale featured various commissioned art projects, and VivoCity was one of the venues. Only this biennale location has permanent installations. VivoCity received 365 entries in a global student design competition. There are 2,179 parking spaces available, as well as a loading dock. The parking garages are located in basements 1 and 2 as well as floors 2 through 7. On level 7, there is a rooftop parking garage. A tour bus bay is available in the mall.
The St James Power Station is accessible through a level 2 pedestrian bridge (near the Golden Village Cinema). HarbourFront Centre is accessible by air-conditioned walkways. The VivoCity stop on the Sentosa Express monorail (near the Food Republic) opened on January 15, 2007. VivoCity and Resorts World Sentosa are connected by bus. The HarbourFront MRT station and bus interchange are accessible from basement 2 and level 1.
