Hypervolt Ev Charger Review: At the CW Electrical offices, bursting through the doors is a new favorite. The Hypervolt Home 2.0 is a strong competitor to the Zappi. The feedback from the many customers for whom we’ve installed these has been Overwhelmingly excellent, and my own installation experience confirms this. A tethered charger with a 5-meter, 7 meters, or 10-meter lead comes in three color options: White, Black, or ‘Space Grey.
And, hurrah, an EV charger with an app that doesn’t necessitate a computer engineering degree to comprehend or configure. Continue reading below as we take a closer look at the Hypervolt and offer you our verdict. It’s been great to be able to recommend a charger to a customer without their being surprised by any ‘Add-ons’ or ‘Optional Extras.’ Everything you’ll need for a completely electric vehicle installation is included in the box. We’ll go through the advantages of these offered items later.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE BOX?
- Charger for Hypervolt Home 2.0 (32 amps 7.2kw)
- Holster for tethered lead
- Clamp CT
The lack of a mounting template to rapidly mark up and fix the Hypervolt to the wall was one of our previous criticisms. We were given a nice metal mounting plate, but because Chris (the boss) carried it around, we had trouble using it. (https://mirrorspectator.com) Thankfully, the package has much improved in recent years and now includes a cardboard template! (It’s the simple things that make a difference!)
“Can you tell me where the instruction book is?” I understand what you’re asking. In the spirit of going green and protecting the environment, I suppose this permits manufacturers to put everything online. All of your inquiries should be addressed at https://support.hypervolt.co.uk. If you still have questions, their helpline is excellent, and I’ve never had to wait more than 20 minutes for someone to pick up the phone.
INSTALLATION
In a nutshell, it’s quite straightforward. It features a built-in 6ma DC RCD that detects fault current, but unlike the Zappi, it requires a double pole A Type 30ma RCD protection supply. As strange as it may sound, I prefer to have the AC RCD protection built-in into the equipment. As with everything, failures can develop, and replacing the RCD/RCBO externally rather than waiting for spares and changing the internal components is considerably easier, cheaper, and faster.
Also, if the supply cable requires RCD protection to meet wiring rules, you won’t have to bother about upstream device discrimination (or selectivity) because it’s all handled at the supply. Right, now that the boring part is finished, the device has plenty of room for the gland and terminate your wire once it’s attached to the wall. The screw terminals must be torqued to the proper torque rating and appear to be well-made. A delicate and nimble approach is required for the CT Clamp terminations and current selection switch.
It’s easy to overlook at first glance, but with a careful eye and patience, the job may be completed. The rotary selection switch for the incoming supply for load management to work is described on their installer’s support page. Our job here is practically done after both the data and power cables are terminated. All you have to do now is a clip on the Hypervolt logo LED cover and remember to attach the LED ribbon (which is very easy to do… trust me, I know). Place the outer shell on top and you’re done.
Hypervolt Ev Charger Review
MANAGEMENT OF LOAD: It’s fantastic to have a simple installation, but what does it actually do? Quite a bit, actually. Apart from the MyEnergi Zappi, which comes with Load Management out of the box, most manufacturers provide it as an optional extra. I believe that all EV chargers should be required to have this installed. In a world where our reliance on electricity is growing and our consumption and needs are trending in one direction, each property has a limited supply capacity, and load control eliminates the anxiety of exceeding the supply coming into the property.
Let’s say your property’s electrical supply is 80 amps. Everyone has finished their work for the day, and tea is in the electric oven, someone is in the electric shower, and your electric heating has begun to warm the house. The property’s usage can easily approach 60 amps. Then you go to charge your automobile, and the demand has now climbed to 92 amps in theory (60 amps plus 32 amps to charge your car). To ensure that the charge to your vehicle does not exceed the supply coming in, the Hypervolt will reduce the charge; in this case, it will provide 20 amps to the automobile (60 amps + 20 amps = 80 amps).
APPLICATION
It’s fantastic to hand over a customer’s charger after an installation and know that they will have no problems utilizing it. The app’s setup is simple and quick, and it’s generally self-explanatory thanks to a well-designed and well-thought-out user interface. You may lock the charger, like with most smart chargers, to prevent your neighbors from charging their car while you’re at work. Setting up scheduled charging to make the most of your flexible EV electricity rates like Octopus is simple, and the app will help you through the process. You may then get reports based on kWh consumption, and if you can’t figure out the kWh readings, it will offer you costings in pounds and pence.
HOW MUCH DOES IT SET YOU BACK?
As you may expect, the Hypervolt isn’t the most affordable option on the market. However, when you consider the CT clamp, tethered lead, and holster that are included, I believe it is a very good value (coming in at cheaper than the similar Zappi). We don’t like the ‘Standard Installation’ cost technique that you find on the internet. To be honest, only a few installations ever match the requirements. We’d rather be honest and give you a set pricing quote (free of charge).
Integration with Alexa
One of the few chargers with full Alexa connectivity is Hypervolt. Switching on charging, dimming the LED display, and setting charging schedules can all be done with voice commands. You’ll be treated to a multicolor light show if you ask Alexa to “ask Hypervolt to get the celebration started.” As previously stated, if you require a quote for the Hypervolt in Bristol, Bath, or anywhere, please contact us to see how we can assist.
THE FINAL RESULTS
This is the first in a series of thorough deep-dive evaluations of electric vehicle chargers, and we couldn’t have chosen a better way to start than with the Hypervolt. This is not a paid or sponsored article; we simply think they’re a great EV charger. The customer service is excellent, the charges are excellent, and the app is excellent. What’s not to like about that? If you’re looking for an EV charger, I can honestly say that this is what I’d put in my home. That’s saying something after installing a slew of different chargers. To give it a score, I’d give the Hypervolt Home 2.0 a solid 9 out of 10.
