In findings initially reported by The Washington Post, Thomas’ role in efforts to keep the 45th president in office was discovered to be more broad and destructive than previously recognized. In the weeks after the election, Thomas, a Trump supporter, contacted then-White House top of staff Mark Meadows to assist overturn Vice President Joe Biden’s Senate victory. Days after several American media outlets, including Fox News, predicted Joe Biden would win the 2020 presidential election on November 7th, Thomas sent an email to 29 Arizona legislators urging them to choose “a clean slate of Electors” and “stand strong in the face of political and media pressure.”
“Consider what will happen to the country we all love if you don’t step up and lead,” Thomas wrote again before electing your state’s electors on December 13, 2021. She forced them to watch a two-minute video of a man pleading with legislators from swing states to “put things right” and “not give in to cowardice,” according to the Washington Post. The link has subsequently been removed for violating YouTube’s Community Guidelines. It’s a potential conflict of interest at worst, and bad optics at best, because Justice Thomas was the only court member who supported Trump’s legal battle to keep records from the Jan. 6 committee.

Ginni Thomas previously indicated that she and her spouse do not become engaged in one other’s jobs. We share many of the same goals, ideals, and aspirations for the United States as many married couples. However, each of us has our own job, as well as our own thoughts and ideas. In a March interview with the Washington Free Beacon, Thomas noted that Clarence “doesn’t discuss his work with me, and I don’t involve him in my work.” The materials ordered by the National Archives included all presidential journals, visitor logs, speeches, and other official actions.
Several Democratic members of Congress have asked Thomas to refrain from participating in any election-related activities. The “Supreme Court Ethical, Recusal, and Transparency Act of 2022″ attempts to change that by requiring Supreme Court justices to follow an ethics code. There is no compelling reason for him to do so, though. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a progressive Democrat from New York, stated on Twitter that Justice Clarence Thomas should resign. There has to be a probe into his failure to record donations from right-wing organizations, his reluctance to recuse himself from matters involving his wife, and his decision to prevent the Jan. 6th commission from collecting crucial information if he is not impeached.”

On Nov. 9, 2020, two days after Joe Biden was elected president, Thomas “sent identical emails to 20 members of the Arizona House and seven Arizona state senators, representing more than half of the Republican members of the state legislature at the time,” according to the Post. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Thomas, a far-right activist, gave Arizona politicians some dubious advice: In a state where the Democratic ticket won by a razor-thin margin, he asserted that legislators had sole authority over elector selection. “These feeling lists were so stupid and unrealistic,” former officials were quoted in the tabloid as saying. They read like they were written by a “distraught person” in many cases.
According to Thomas, this means they may disregard Arizonans’ wishes. That was not the case
Regardless, a significant advocacy campaign was carried out. Her initial email to state Republicans was sent on November 9th, and she followed up a month later with a second, this time to 22 House members and one senator, the day before Arizona’s state assembly electors convened. Despite the fact that Thomas’ lobbying efforts were unsuccessful, her participation in an anti-election plot to damage our democracy is noteworthy. During the Trump administration, Thomas was quite engaged. According to The Daily Beast, the activist would meet with Donald Trump on a daily basis, presenting him with lists of people he might hire or fire during his presidency.
Political organizations with a stake in Supreme Court
Thomas, on the other hand, worked with political organizations with a stake in Supreme Court decisions, where her husband is one of the court’s nine sitting justices. It’s not just a simple case of expressing one’s political opinions when the spouse of a sitting justice does so. According to a recent revelation in the New York Times, text messages between Thomas and Meadows “demonstrated that she was an active participant in preparing the legal attempt to reverse the election.”
Clarence Thomas, on the other hand, presided over election-related proceedings, agreeing with Trump’s campaign on providing sensitive information to Congress. Our system is at risk, according to Republican-appointed jurists, if we don’t learn to “live with outcomes we don’t agree with.” If only he could persuade his wife to join him.
