Dance Show and Competition by Students from Mastermind
The ‘Moving Forward’ Dance Show and Competition by Students from Mastermind ‘Moving Forward,’ a virtual dance spectacle and competition, is the brainchild of five gifted and determined Richmond Sixth Form College Dance students. Students from years 7 to 12 will be featured in the show, which will be published on Friday 23rd April as the week-long celebrations wind to a close, and will culminate in a grand finale that includes the entire school.
A group of Year 13 students led by Kassandra Jeffels, Charlotte Harrison, Abbey Charles, Usha Rai, and Grace Stones came up with the show’s concept and handled the project from start to finish. The topic of ‘Moving Forward’ was chosen to recognize how successfully the students survived during the Pandemic and to show that they can move forward together through dance. Along with helping students improve their dancing technique and focus, the show and competition also aim to exemplify the ideals of creativity, excellence, independence, resilience, respect, and teamwork that permeate the school and college. It’s a week-long celebration of the power of dance, and the dance department will demonstrate how it may improve a person’s mental and physical health. Interviews with prior students who have achieved success in the performing arts industry will also be included.
With a lengthy history of accomplished dancers, Richmond School and Sixth Form College have earned a well-deserved reputation as a top schools for dance. “We wanted to give our fellow students an opportunity to perform again and really throw the spotlight on the amount of talent we have in our school and college,” Kassandra Jeffels, ‘Moving Forward’s project co-ordinator, stated. Our hope is that this has given pupils something positive to look forward to in the wake of the Pandemic, as well as a renewed optimism for the future of dance in our school. When it comes to spreading the word about our passion for dance, this is a perfect time!
Moving Forward
Rather than only focusing on themselves, these five dancers have been mentoring the younger members of their class on how to improve their choreography and costume design. Dance teachers Mrs. O’Malley and Miss. Pembleton, as well as the Year 13 dancers, will be judging the competition, which will be a challenging task due to its excellent caliber. In anticipation of a big finale choreographed by Usha Rai, which will be filmed for safety and social distancing by each year’s group, the audience is excited.
