Trimmer and Smale were both 28 when they tied the knot on August 21, 1919, at Lydney, Gloucestershire, the hometown of Smale’s bride. For the first three years of her existence, Deborah was raised by her grandparents at a house on West King Street in Helensburgh, a town on the west coast of Scotland.

Kerr was nominated for an Emmy Award for this performance. In Reunion at Fairborough, Kerr reunited with Mitchum, his former co-star in the film (1985). On the small screen, she had roles in Hold the Dream (1986) and Ann and Debbie (1986).
As it pertains to my own life: Squadron Leader Anthony Bartley RAF was Kerr’s first husband. Melanie Jane (born December 27th, 1947) and Francesca Ann (born December 28th, 1948) are their two children (born 18 December 1951, and subsequently married to the actor John Shrapnel). Since Bartley was envious of his wife’s wealth, he was unable to spend time with his family, which exacerbated their marital difficulties. In 1959, they divorced. On July 23, 1960, she married novelist, Peter Viertel. As a result of her marriage to Viertel, Christine Viertel became her stepmother.
Kerr returned to the UK to be near her own children as her health began to fail after living in Klosters, Switzerland, and Marbella, Spain for a long time. However, her husband remained in Marbella. His memoir claims that she approached him in the rear of his chauffeur-driven automobile while he was filming Caesar and Cleopatra in 1945. He claims that he and Kerr had an affair despite the fact that he was married to Elspeth March at the time. He said, “What a courageous man he is!” when asked about this revelation.
Death:On October 16, 2007, at the age of 86, Kerr died of Parkinson’s disease in the village of Botesdale, Suffolk, England. She was laid to rest in Alfold Cemetery in Alfold, Surrey, in a family plot. Peter Viertel died of cancer on November 4th, three weeks after his wife’s death. Director Michael Scheingraber was in the midst of filming a documentary about Viertel called Peter Viertel: Between the Lines when he passed away.
