Cherylee Houston of Coronation Street will film sequences at her home with her real-life partner Toby Hadoke. The 46-year-old actress has been unable to work on the soap owing to a severe connective tissue condition that leaves her susceptible to coronavirus. She has been protected since March 2020. Cherylee will return to television after an 18-month hiatus to film scenes for the show about having a disability and working from home. Toby will portray Cherylee’s character’s next-door neighbor, factory worker Izzy Armstrong, who has been given permission to work from home.

During the coronavirus epidemic, the plotline tries to illustrate the plight of millions of crippled people. ‘There are 14.1 million people in the UK, which is one in every five of us,’ Cherylee, who was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos disease when she was 23, said. We are employees, caregivers, front-line workers, volunteers, and important members of our communities. ‘Due to social isolation, the unavailability of certain services, and a lack of understanding, the pandemic has had a huge impact on many disabled individuals.’ ‘There are currently 4.4 million disabled workers in the UK,’ she continued. When compared to our non-disabled colleagues, we have nearly double the unemployment rate (mostly due to prejudice or lack of reasonable adjustments).

ITV has been Fantastic in Supporting Him

‘It was incredible luck that my employers allowed me to continue shielding after the formal guidance expired in March.’ ‘ITV has been fantastic in supporting me, but I’m aware that many of my disabled colleagues who were previously shielded haven’t had the same level of assistance and have been forced to work to make ends meet while facing the actual threat of death or major sickness through COVID.’

Toby’s character Fergus is obliged to intervene in the new narrative line when Underworld boss Carla Connor becomes increasingly upset with the quality of Izzy’s work she is delivering from home. In the next scenes, Izzy’s employer is expected to give her an ultimatum: either catch up on her work or face being fired. The show’s writers and producers have been working with Cherylee on the narrative for months. The Trades Union Congress (TUC) published a study earlier this month detailing the results of a survey conducted by disabled workers. He manages the XS Malarkey comedy club and is active in a number of regional comedy evenings. His humor is often topical and/or political in nature.

According to their poll, one in every thirteen people has been bullied or harassed at work, has been ignored or ostracised, has been picked out for criticism, or has been overly scrutinized. One-eighth of those surveyed stated that their disability has hampered their chances of advancement in the future. One in eight people indicated they were anxious about how their management would evaluate their performance because of their impairment. ‘We had to think outside the box in order to tell this tale, developing new protocols and ways of scripting scenes that would allow Cherylee to film the scenes herself in her house,’ producer Iain MacLeod said of the new storyline.

‘It didn’t hurt that her partner, Toby, fantastic Actor!’

‘Despite the technical hurdles we faced, this was a tale that needed to be told, and I believe it will resonate with millions of people who have been in a similar situation to Izzy – and potentially open the eyes of millions more who were unaware of the issues that disabled people faced during COVID.’ Toby Hadoke is an English actor, writer, and stand-up comedian who was born on January 2, 1974. He is well-known for his work on the Manchester comedy scene, where he performs on a regular basis, and for being a big admirer of the BBC’s Doctor Who.
