The 46-year-old actress has been unable to work on the soap owing to a severe connective tissue condition that leaves her susceptible to coronavirus. She has been protected since March 2020. Toby will portray Cherylee’s character’s next-door neighbor, factory worker Izzy Armstrong, who has been given permission to work from home.
During the coronavirus epidemic, the plotline tries to illustrate the plight of millions of crippled people. ‘There are 14.1 million people in the UK, which is one in every five of us,’ Cherylee, who was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos disease when she was 23, said. Toby’s character Fergus is obliged to intervene in the new narrative line when Underworld boss Carla Connor becomes increasingly upset with the quality of Izzy’s work she is delivering from home. The show’s writers and producers have been working with Cherylee on the narrative for months. At the 2003 Manchester Comedy Festival, Hadoke received the first Les Dawson Award for Services to Comedy (beating a shortlist including Peter Kay, Johnny Vegas, Caroline Aherne, Dave Spikey, and Ken Dodd). Hadoke is also the Resident Compere at the Limelight Comedy Club in Hightown in Crewe, Cheshire (formerly the Ribbed Comedy Club). Ribbed 2 (Ribbed Squared) at Square One, Mill Street, Crewe, was also his compere. For his work promoting comedy throughout the North West and at XS Malarkey, he won the Chortle Award for Best Off-Stage Contribution in 2008.
