Ricky Butcher Actor: In the BBC soap opera EastEnders, Richard “Ricky” Butcher is a fictitious character played by Sid Owen, who is known as “Ricky.” Ricky first appeared on EastEnders as a schoolboy in 1988, and he has gone on to become one of the show’s longest-running male protagonists. Owen originally stepped down from the post in 2000 to pursue a career in music.
However, he returned to the role in 2002 before being fired from the show by producer Louise Berridge the following year. In 2008, producer Diederick Santer, along with his wife Bianca Jackson, launched the character for a third time, this time on television (Patsy Palmer). Ricky is depicted as being dumb, unsophisticated, easily led, and bossed around by powerful characters in the show and in real life.
On February 26, 2011, it was announced that Owen will be taking a vacation from the show for a period of time. The character left the show on July 19, 2011, then returned five months later, on December 13, 2011. Ricky was sent out of EastEnders on the 17th of January, 2012.
When Ricky Butcher (Charlie Brooks) got married on June 20, 2012, he returned to EastEnders for a brief visit, before departing for the final time on June 29, 2012. His interest in returning to EastEnders was first expressed in April 2016 during an appearance on the reality television show Celebrity Juice.
When Ricky’s father Frank Butcher (Mike Reid) takes over as landlord of the Queen Victoria public house in Albert Square in May 1988, the kid finds himself in the heart of the city. Ricky is a troubled adolescent who is constantly reprimanded by his father for his lack of academic achievement.
He establishes a relationship with Shireen Karim (Nisha Kapur), an Asian Muslim, much to the displeasure of Shireen’s father Ashraf (Tony Wredden). When Ashraf pressures Shireen into an arranged marriage, Ricky retaliates by scaring Ashraf and his family for a short period of time with an all-female gang of racists.
Later on, Ricky demonstrates an aptitude for vehicle maintenance, and the Mitchell brothers, Phil (Steve McFadden) and Grant (Ross Kemp), hire him as an apprentice mechanic at their auto repair company in 1990.
At the age of 16, Ricky begins dating the Mitchell brothers’ younger sister Sam (Danniella Westbrook), and when Sam decides she wants to get married, Ricky and Sam elope to Gretna Green in 1991. Ricky and Sam have two children. Their marriage is short-lived because Sam becomes bored and begins to hunt for other sources of excitement; she eventually divorces Ricky in 1993.
Ricky and his fiancée Cassie pay a visit to Liam in Bianca’s flat in Manchester in May 2002. Ricky and Cassie are engaged to be married. He learns that Bianca has taken £50,000 in drug money from her boss, Vince and that he must prosecute her. Ricky, who is unimpressed, persuades Bianca to return the money before she suffers any consequences. Vince sends the pair to a narcotics deal that turns out to be a ruse.
Ricky and Bianca take refuge in a hotel, where they are able to momentarily reignite their relationship. Bianca explains that she is struggling as a single mom, and Cassie manipulates her into believing that Ricky’s life will be ruined if Bianca returns to him with the children. She makes the decision to leave Liam with Ricky and embarks on an adventure to an unknown destination.
