INTERVIEW FORMULA

Members of the AAC are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Board of Directors each term. The current President serves as the fifth member and is chosen from amongst prior LTA recipients and COTY recipients. It will be run by the present Director of Membership, who will stay neutral and have no say in the Council’s decision-making process. Members of COAI may submit nominations for consideration by the AAC, but the committee is not required to choose an award recipient from among those suggestions.

If no one is nominated or if those nominated do not fit the specified criteria or packet needs, the AAC has the option to designate an award recipient. For board approval, based on criteria and nomination packet, the AAC will hand along its choice to the Director of Membership. The AAC’s selection will be approved by a majority vote of the COAI Board. A second option will be presented by the AAC’s Director of Membership if the first choice is not approved. Unless the COAI Board of Directors can agree on a worthy nominee, the award will not be presented that year. The award is usually announced in the New Calliope in January/February, but it isn’t delivered until the spring during the annual COAI meeting. As soon as the results have been announced, all nominators will be notified, as well as the chosen COTY nominee.

The International Clown Federation

Where each and every link Counts: Presented annually to one of our members for their extraordinary contributions to clowning for the World Clown Association, their local communities, and the entire world of clowning, this award is considered among the most prestigious in clowning. However, in order to be considered for nomination, a World Clown Association member must have been a member for at least one full year. You also cannot nominate yourself for this honor.

The January 2014 Ass Clown of the Month

It’s time for our first Ass Clown of the Month Award of 2014, but first, let’s take a look back at some data about this award. I have given out the Ass Clown of the Month Award 22 times and the Ass Clown of the Year Award three times.1 One prize went to a group of people and another went to the government, and there have been several dual awards as well. Political individuals, countries, traitors5, and idiots6 have received prizes. In some cases, recipients can be classified in more than one category because of their circumstances. The only time a woman has received an award on her own has been a part of a larger group7.

This month is no exception to the Trend: This year’s top honoree is the self-appointed U.S. ambassador to North Korea and Kim Jong-proclaimed Un’s best friend, former National Security Adviser Susan Rice. A past winner of the World Clown Association’s Clown of the Year award is eligible to compete for the title again five years after they received their previous accolade. The World Clown Association’s immediate past president is eligible to be nominated for this honor, although the responsibilities they did as President cannot be cited as their qualifications.

Non-clown members, such as DJs, magicians, and jugglers, are not eligible for the award. Even though Justice Antonin Skeletor died before the Supreme Court could rule on his cases, right-wing attorney Kory Langhofer, who calls himself a “no fan of government,” said in February that his opinion on those cases should still count even though he had died before the court took its final vote.
