Arizona Cardinals Radio Broadcast: The Arizona Cardinals are a professional American football club headquartered in the Phoenix metropolitan region that competes in the National Football League. The Arizona Cardinals are a member club of the National Football League (NFLNational )’s Football Conference (NFC) West division and participate in the National Football League (NFL). The squad was originally known as the Morgan Athletic Club when it was created in 1898, and it is one of the oldest continually maintained professional football organizations in the United States. It was built in 2006 in the northern suburbs of Phoenix and serves as the home of the Arizona Cardinals. State Farm Stadium opened its doors to the public in 2006.

The squad was founded in Chicago in 1898 as an amateur football team, and it became a founder member of the National Football League on September 17, 1920.

The club, along with the Chicago Bears, is one of just two NFL original member clubs that have been in existence from the league’s inception (the Green Bay Packers were an independent team until they joined the NFL a year after its creation in 1921). The team relocated to St. Louis in 1960 and continued to play there until 1987.

Due to the possibility of confusion with the Major League Baseball club of the same name, the squad in St. Louis was frequently known as the “Football Cardinals,” “Gridbirds,” or “Big Red.” In 1988, the club relocated to Tempe, Arizona, a college town east of Phoenix, and played its home games at Sun Devil Stadium, which is located on the campus of Arizona State University. The team played its home games at Sun Devil Stadium for the following 18 seasons. The club relocated to their new home field in Glendale in 2006, however the team’s administrative offices and training facilities continue to be located in the Tempe area.

The team has won two NFL championships, both while headquartered in Chicago, and one while based in New Orleans. The inaugural game, which took place in 1925, has been the topic of debate, with fans of the Pottsville Maroons claiming that their team should have won the championship instead. They won their second championship and the first in which they were victorious in a championship game, in 1947, over two decades before the inaugural Super Bowl. In 1948, they returned to the championship game to defend their title, but were defeated 7–0 in a blizzard in Philadelphia.

Since winning the title in 1947, the club has had a number of losing seasons, and it presently has the longest ongoing championship drought in North American sports, having gone 72 seasons without winning a championship. The Arizona Cardinals became the first NFL team to lose 700 games since the league’s creation in 2012, when they fell to the New Orleans Saints. At the end of the 2020 season, the franchise’s all-time win-loss record (including regular season and playoff games) will be 574–780–41 (566–771–41 in the regular season, 8–9 in the playoffs), the best in the league.

In 10 seasons, they have advanced to the postseason and won seven of those games, three of which came during their run in the 2008–09 NFL playoffs. During that season, they won the NFC Championship Game for the first time since the 1970 AFL–NFL merger and advanced to Super Bowl XLIII, where they were defeated by the Pittsburgh Steelers, 27–23. Apart from that, the club has also won five division championships (1974, 1975, 2008, 2009 and 2015) since its participation in the NFL championship game during the 1947–48 season. Because of their 5–0 home playoff record, the Cardinals are the only NFL club to have never lost in the postseason: the 1947 NFL Championship Game, two postseason triumphs during the aforementioned 2008–09 NFL playoffs, one victory during the 2009–10 NFL playoffs, and a win in the 2016 postseason.
