Perilla Socks: Perilla houses a superb collection of British high-quality alpaca socks – the perfect treat for your feet. This company was founded on a Christmas basis after searching for truly comfortable beds for my daughter.
An opportunity to meet a leading local breeder who was involved in knitwear development led me to the fabulous alpaca socks that will appear on this blog.
In March 2006 I only started to use British alpaca, but we couldn’t get enough of the highest quality fiber required for knitting machines and now import large quantities of alpaca yarn from Peru.
The yarn is dyed in two plants in the UK and then knitted into all the ranges and unbelievably capable artisans connect the toes of each pair. Unfortunately, this is a dying art and all the socks of our bed are now machined.
Our sock factory is one of just three factories in the United Kingdom that connect sock toes by hand. The socks are then washed, torn, pressed and then paired, labelled, and packed back to the knitting factory.
This is an incredibly long process that can take up to nine months, which is why we are most often limited and unavailable for some sock sizes during the busy winter months.
