Apparently all it took was figuring out insanely yummy combinations that didn’t leave me sloshy and hungry. Who woulda thought?! Yeah, I’m sure you already knew, but I’m behind the curve with most things.
Some days are two cup of coffee kind of days. Like a friday morning after being out until 2am and waking up at 7am for a day of classes followed by a late night of work. If that’s you too, this smoothie is for you. You can drink your coffee, and…. drink it too. As in have your necessary first cup that allows you to be a human and successfully use a blender without chopping your finger off…. then have a second cup using said blender!
Java Chip Smoothie
Just like Java chip ice cream with the addition of crunchy chocolate bits but quite a bit healthier with a punch of protein and zing of caffeine. Gluten and sugar free. Makes about 12 oz. smoothie.
1 small banana, frozen
1/3 cup milk of choice (canned coconut milk adds a wonderful thick texture)
1 tsp ground coffee
1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1 scoop unflavored protein powder (optional, or use any protein you have on hand)
1/2 square (.5 oz) of unsweetened chocolate (or handful of favorite chocolate chips)
2 ice cubes
Add all ingredients into a blender except chocolate. Blend until fully combined. Add in 1/2 of the .5oz chocolate chunk into the blender and blend on low until chopped up into bite sized pieces but not fully blended (adds a crunchy texture).
Shave or grate remaining chocolate over the top of the smoothie for garnish.
Sip and enjoy the added benefit of a second cup of coffee. Warning: may induce extra jittery hands and lots of productivity.
